FPG's Letters to A. L. Phelps

8. 1923:
Rapid City, Man.    June 16, 1923

Dear Mr. Phelps,

Owing to the approach of exams I had to give –in on the pioneers at a point about 1/3 short of the end of the first lap. I should have liked to get to a legitimate stop before sending you anything. And please don’t forget that this is nothing but a first draft of the new form. I am almost afraid to let anybody see it in its present shape. But I often get so discouraged thinking that there people surely are not even alive, that their doings are absolutely without interest to anybody but myself – that I am tempted to give in.

As I said, I have nobody except my wife to whom I can read a piece to test it out; and she is prejudiced of course.

By the way, I have given up my summer-trip in order to be able to put in 2 months work. My address, beginning with July 2 will be Matlock Man. (MATLOCK) – where we shall go into camp soon as exams are finished.

Yours,
F.P.G.
