FPG's Letters to A. L. Phelps

Rapid City, Man.    August 26, 1924

Dear Mr. Phelps,

I have had repeated signs of your continued interest. I had a delightful summer, along the Nelson of the Winnipeg River, studying as usual, Manitoba landscape and population. The holiday wound up rather dismally, though. While in camp on the Winnipeg river, one of my old attacks overtook me again, laming me completely. So we had to go home at last. I am planning a winter-trip, though, to salt water at York Factory. God knows whether anything will come of it. In a literary way I am doing nothing other than trying to write some trash which will open the door into a magazine somewhere.

Besides I play with the idea of producing the 3 vols. of the Pioneers into one. My hopes of getting some magazines to print parts of that work (of the Search) in short-story or sketch form have, as usual, come to naught. My wife is urging me to finish the "ant-book" and to toy publishers along a new track. I don't know.

Thanks for your continued labors in the interest of,

Yours,
F.P.G.
