FPG's Letters to A. L. Phelps

110. 1926:
Rapid City, Man.    December 29, 1926

Dear A.L.P.,

The whole family is shortly going to write you and Mrs. P. a Round-Robin thanking you for the Christmas presents. You make a person feel like a millionaire by gift.

However, this a business letter. The Tribune found "Lost" to be a fiasco and has, therefore, declined "Marsh-fire", etc. They want something "lighter". Of course, that mean that I cannot keep them going very long. However, for the moment it is too much of a godsend for me not to try my darndest to keep it up a while longer.

The point is, can I find material which I might fit for then? I am thinking of

"The Agent"
"The Immigrant"
"The Goat"
"The Midwife"

of which, I believe, you have copies - and of several others of which copies are in New York. I have nothing here any longer except "Water" which I am sending them for the Jan 8 issue. They are clamoring for more. I hate to trouble you. But - can you send me any or all of the above - and, if you have anything else that you think they might print, it, too? And at once? It's merely a question of the shekels, you know. Otherwise I shouldn't change a line.

By the way, I have unearthed a copy of the MS. of the Search for you which I'll send you as soon I either get through with the proof or as I now definitely that the book will not appear in spring.

A fruitful 1927 to you and yours.

Yours,
F.P.G.
