FPG's Letters to A. L. Phelps

145. 1930:
Ottawa, Ont.    [April 28?], 1930

Dear A.L.P.,

Just got your preliminary report, the "[?]" one. It goes to say: I've always said that about Rhodenizer, even against you, old man. This concoction I had no time to read; but I had my suspicions. Still, I hope it will be all right for Graphic. I have been declining, declining, declining; and the directors are somewhat down on me. In order to have a "balanced ration", I absolutely need something of that type - I myself (Ariston) need another book; but would not dream of taking anything divided into "lessons". So I am counting on your "Essays in Humanism". Please tell Kirk to book lustily; I am willing to pay him a fee of $1.00 for each and every [?] that puts you 3 steps higher up the stairs. Never mind about feeling "all ass". The more you feel so, the better will be what you turn out. Now mind, I am holding the presses for you and declining other things that are being offered to me. I want literature; Graphic does not : they want what promises sales.

So we can supplement each other nicely. I hope the [?] report is on the way?

F.P.G.
