Annotation:
Originally published anonymously in 1895, London, William Reeves, 45 pp. --

Often attributed to Lord Alfred Douglas, but apparently now traced to Dal [Dalhousie] Young, who is not represented in the UM Libraries online catalogue BISON.

According to the following website [ http://home.arcor.de/oscar.wilde/ ], he was a "composer and pianist (1866-1921) ... After his release from prison in 1897, Wilde met with Young & various French literati on the French Channel Coast, notably, Berneval-sur-Mer and Dieppe."
In relation to one of the few copies located on the Internet, book-dealer Healy says:
"Dalhousie Young was an Englishman, most sympathetic to Wilde, who wrote the above "Apologia" to contradict the theory that Wilde's writings were immoral and seditious. He was one of the very few who ventured into print. Young wrote this scarce plea on 31st May 1895, six days after Wilde was convicted & sentenced, and not many copies come on the market."

Phc of Greve's translation obtained in early May 1990 from Dr. Ute Oelmann, Stefan George Archiv, Stuttgart.

ZVAB had not a single listing for this Latin title [4.1.2006] which mimick's Grove's 1931 article "Apologia pro vita et opere sue". However, some copies of the English orig. were detected in other libraries, and can probably be requested by the UML's Document Delivery/Interlibrary Loan.
