This was Greve's second of three Meredith translations for Bruns Publishers. --

Opposite each of the two title pages in this 2 v.-in-1 ed. appears the following advertisement:
"Dieses Werk bildet weitere zwei Bande Merediths, dessen hervorragendste Romane in einer deutschen Ausgabe in J. J. C. Bruns' Verlag in Minden in Westf. erscheinen sollen. / Man wolle Prospekte verlangen." --

This advertisement identifies "Harry Richmond" as the second of Greve's three Meredith translation. --
The first, also of 1904, was the translation of Meredith' earliest novel, "The Ordeal of Richard Feverel" (1859). The corresponding advertising note opposite the title page had stated in slightly different, more pompous wording:
"Dieses Buch bildet den ersten Band einer in der im J.J.C. Bruns' Verlag erscheinenden deutschen Meredith-Ausgabe, die die hervorragendsten Werke des englischen Romanciers umfassen soll. Man wolle den Prospect verlangen." -- (Note the uncertainty in the spelling of "Prospekt"! ).

Bruns obviously had plans to issue a monumental Meredith Edition in German, and he signaled the existence of a descriptive Brochure of this project. However, these plans never went beyond the three titles rendered by F. P. Greve in 1904 & 1905.--

The third novel Greve translated was "Diana from Kreuzweg" (1905, orig. 1885), of which the UM Libraries only have a microfiche CIHM copy, filmed from the U Carlton Collections (2 v. in 1, xv, 592 p.).

RBR's Copy, bound in orange linen with gold lettering, is a 2nd printing of the orig. German ed. which was issued in 2 vols in 1904. --

Annotation:
Unlike Greve's first Meredith translation for Bruns ("Richard Feverels Prufung", 2v., 1904), "Harry Richmond" would not later be included in Bruns' series "Meisterwerke [or: Meitserromane] der [modernen] Weltliteratur " which started in 1912, and presented the following 6 titles in its first year:
Flaubert's "Mme Bovary" & "Salambo" (v.1 & 2); Balzac's "Pere Goriot" (v.3); O. Wilde's "Dorian Gray" (v.4); Meredith's "R. Feverel" as v.5, and Emerson's "Conduct of life" (orig. 1860) as v.6 , "Lebensfuhrung". --

Note that The Frederick Philip Grove Library Collection contains several of Meredtith' novels in later English editions, often issued by J. M. Dent in his "Everyman's library" series.
