Note: Translation of Oscar Wilde's only novel The picture of Dorian Gray, orig. publ. serially in 1890 in "Lippincott's monthly magazine" (Philadelphia). This is a later, ca. 1908 printing of the 2nd ed. of Greve's German text ("13. bis 15. Tausend"). -- The orig. 1902/3 ed. had the title: Das Bildnis Dorian Grays -- it is relatively rare, whereas Dorian Grays Bildnis appears in many printings well into the 1920s. A recent antiquarians' site search listed 14 of the latter, & only one of the former.
Local Note: Spine title: Dorian Gray. -- Opposite tp, a long list of Greve's works (4, excluding his two novels Fanny Essler and Maurermeister Ihles Haus, 1905 & 1906/7 respectively). His ranslations number no less than twenty: 5 by Oscar Wilde, 3 by Meredith; 6 by Wells ; 4 by Flaubert, and 2 by Gide. -- Most of these were published by Bruns, who proudly specifies his Ducal Court connections on the cover: "Herzogl. Sachs. und Fürstl. Schaumburg-Lippische Hof-Verlagsbuchhandlung." -- Last p.: "Oscar Wilde-Literatur," a list of 7 titles published by Bruns. 4 of these were transl. by Greve, 2 by Carl Hagemann, 1 by Freiherr von Teschenberg. Prices are indicated as well.
