This is Greve's fourth of six substantial Wells translations, delivered in only three years: "Die Riesen kommen!" was the first of the initial three translated books, all done in 1904. In November 1904, Greve sent copies of - "Die Riesen kommen!" ("Food for the Gods", Macmillan, 1904) - "Die Zeitmaschine" ("The Time Machine", Heinemann, 1895) & - "Dr. Moreaus Insel" ("The Island of Doctor Moreau", Heinemann, 1896) to Wells with the following dedicationon the title page of "Riesen" (it accounted for all three books): "Dear Mr. Wells, / May I send you the three first volumes of / this new edition of your works as a sign of / my profound admiration? / Yours very truly / F. P. Greve / Wollerau, November, 1904."
Opposite the title page is Bruns proud Advertisement for these three previously published titles, along with prices for glued or bound editions: "Von demselben Verfasser sind in dem gleichen Verlage in autorisierten Ausgaben erschienen: - Die Riesen kommen!! Deutsch von Felix Paul Greve. Broschiert Mark 4,25, gebunden Mark 5,25. -- - Die Zeitmaschine. Deutsch von Felix Paul Greve. Broschiert Mark 2,25, gebunden Mark 3,--. -- - Doktor Moreaus Insel.. Deutsch von Felix Paul Greve. Broschiert Mark 2,50, gebunden Mark 3,25." --
"Forthcoming" are Anticipations (1901) & When the Sleeper Wakes (1899): "Daran werden sich anschliessen:" - Ausblicke und Folgen ... - Wenn der Schläfer erwacht ... "und andere." The first was completed in Paris-Plage in Dec. 1905 [see dedication], the other in Berlin inOct, 1906. -- No "further" / "andere" were ever published in Greve's translation.
